The public is invited to meetings of the Alexander County Garden Club. The club, which has 30+ members and is in its 4th year, meets once a month on the second Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Alexander County Cooperative Extension office (376 1st Ave SW, Taylorsville, NC 28681). A guest speaker is invited to every meeting to provide information on a variety of topics.
This month’s presentation will be given by Rick Crowder from Hawksridge Farms of Hickory. Hawksridge Farms is a wholesaler of ornamental trees and shrubs, and Rick Crowder travels the world looking for new species of plants to bring into the USA for sale. Rick spends a lot of time in Japan, and will tell us a bit about his travels and focus his presentation with pictures and descriptions of soon-to-be-available plants new to our market. There will be a door-prize drawing, and refreshments will be served.
The club also has a Summer Social in June at the top of Barrett’s Mountain, a Christmas party in December, and occasional field trips. The club has a warm, welcoming group of folks of all ages. Learn more about the Alexander County Garden Club on their Facebook page where you can check the “Event” tab for information about each month’s meeting.
