The 2017 Alexander County Relay for Life will be Friday, May 19 in downtown Taylorsville at 6:00 p.m. American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life is about a community that takes up the fight against cancer.
Last year’s top team was Three Forks Baptist Church, which raised $6,672. There were a total of 33 teams, with 14 of those teams raising over $1,000 each. The total for the 2016 Relay was $61,246.03. The 23 corporate sponsors were instrumental in supporting the cause. A “Hope Lights the Way” luminaria line will happen again this year. A white bag is $10 and a gold bag is $20. Luminaria allows family and friends to pay great tribute to the memory of loved ones who have passed away from cancer, and honor those who continue their valiant fight. For those wanting to place a luminary along the walking route, contact any team member or Kendra Dyson at 828-632-2265. If you would like to participate, but have not been asked to join a team, go to www.relayforlife.org/alexandernc. Each participant on a team is encouraged to raise at least $100, but even the smallest donation will help to fight cancer or help with patient care. Those who raise $100 or more will be recognized as a “Hope Club” member with a special t-shirt. For more information, contact Laura Jamison at 704-682-3850 or Lisa Powell at 828-302-2212.
